LONG BRANCH: The boardwalk at the Great Lawn was filed with happy people, thousands of people enjoying the Fourth of July celebration of Independence Day. The weather started the day a bit humid but as the afternoon arrived so did the breeze that made it perfect for everyone.
Clowns excited the ids, music at the Great Lawn stage featured great performances all afternoon and vendors offered charms and necklaces, fun painted T-shirts and straw hats, and great food to please anyone's palate.
There were booths to make travel arrangements, buy a hat to help our valued veterans, and help those who are helping others. It was a day for Americans to feel good about this country, its treasures, its freedom, its many cultures and enjoyments.
Sand sculptures caught attention as they were being made by artists who paused to chat with walkers. There were rides for thrills and chills including a hipline.
Music was performed all afternoon at the Great Lawn stage. Local artists and bands from afar performed to a full audience area most of the time.
The event is run by the Long Branch Chamber of Commerce as supported by the city with police directing the huge traffic with the first aid squad at the ready and the fire department on alert for issues and to assure safety at the fireworks which began at 9 p.m.
The mayor and council members made their way to the beachfront as Chamber Director Nancy Kleiberg was on her golf cart assuring all was going well.
Success was fulfilled when the sky lit up with bright sparkle and lots of ooohs and aahhs. It was a Happy Fourth to everyone.
