Oceanport Police Moving To Fort Monmouth

OCEANPORT: The borough police department will be getting another temporary home in the next few months.

Borough Administrator John Bennett said the police, which are currently utilizing trailers behind borough hall, will be moving to the firehouse located in the Historic District of  Fort Monmouth in Oceanport.

Bennett said the firehouse is currently vacant and is not listed as one the Fort Monmouth Economic Revitalization Authority's (FMERA) for sale properties. He said some work needs to be done at the firehouse before the police can move in.

"It's basically a clean-out and move-in job," Bennett said.

Bennett said the police have a floor plan for the building and that a meeting has been set for next week to discuss the move.

The police were originally going to move to the State Police building at Fort Monmouth, but that plan never came to fruition.
