OCEANPORT: The borough council took steps to bring the annual Summer's End Festival back this year.
The festival will be held at Blackberry Bay Park on Sept. 12 from 3-11 p.m. The Oceanport Parks and Recreation-sponsored event will feature an evening of games, music and food for residents as the summer comes to a close.
The Oceanport Council passed a resolution granting temporary permission for the possession and consumption of alcoholic beverages at Blackberry Bay Park during its June 16 meeting. Normally, alcohol is not permitted on the premises, but the resolution will make it legal for the hours of the festival for people over the age of 21.
The council also passed a resolution authorizing a fireworks display for the festival.
Garden State Fireworks, Inc. will handle the display and will secure a fire permit from the Oceanport Fire Marshal prior to the event. The fireworks are usually held around 9 p.m. each year.
In the event of rain, the festival will be held on Sept. 13 and all the two resolutions passed by the council would extend an additional day to allow the fireworks display and consumption of alcohol at the park.
We'll post a full preview of the event as soon as more details are available.
