LONG BRANCH: The architect who designed Pier Village has presented a plan to build a new, oceanfront housing development in the city.
Dean Marchetto, of the architectural firm of Marchetto-Higgins-Stieve, showed off plans during the Nov. 24 Long Branch Council meeting for a 7-story building which would be located in the space currently occupied by the Cabana Club.
Cabana Club was a bar and restaurant, located at 310 Ocean Ave., which closed in 2013 and has been sitting vacant since that time.
The plans were actually presented earlier this year but tweaked slightly based on feedback from the city's redevelopment attorney and planners.
Marchetto said the building will have 57 units of 1- and 2-bedroom housing and an underground parking area. It will also have an outdoor pool area, sun deck, cabanas and a beach access path for residents. One of the new features is a terraced landscape buffer on the east side of the building.
The developer, Markbuilt at Long Branch, is looking to build in a redevelopment zone, so they will need the OK from the Long Branch Council before going for site plan approval from the Long Branch Planning Board.
The council did not have any questions or comments about the project.
