The long-vacant Casey Jones restaurant at the corner of Third and Morris Avenue in Long Branch has found a new tenant.
The new owner is looking to demolish the 2-story diner/restaurant, which has been closed since 2009, and build retail on the first floor and apartments on the second floor, according to informal plans that were presented to the Long Branch Planning Board in May.
The project is located in the city's Transit Village zone where mixed use projects such as the one proposed are allowed.
Long Branch Planning Board member Kathleen Billings said the owners are still working on their plans, but plan on moving forward with the project. They will be back before the planning board in the next few months for site plan approval and any necessary variances.
