EATONTOWN: The largest project of the borough's 2014 road program will begin on June 22.
Borough Engineer David Marks said advanced warning signs are going out soon for the reconfiguration of the Parker Road/Wall Street intersection. The project was first outlined in 2014.
"We're coordinating the closures and detours with traffic safety," Marks said. "We're also coordinating the work with the owners and managers of both the Crossroads mall and the Best Buy plaza."
The project is a complete reconstruction and realignment of the intersection to improve the "difficult approaches.
The portion of Wall Street between the Crossroads Mall and the Best Buy plaza was vacated by the borough. Half the street belongs to the LGR Complex and the other half belongs to the Best Buy shopping center. The redesigned intersection will eliminate that portion of Wall Street and includes the rest of Wall Street, Parker Road, the new extension of Parker Road that takes drivers to Route 35 and a two-way access road to the Best Buy shopping center.
The sight lines at the intersection in its current form are troublesome for drivers and the new design would help alleviate that. A right turn lane would also be added to intersection for drivers who want to turn east from Wall Street to Parker Road.
The intersection will also become an all-way stop.
Marks said the project will likely take about four weeks to complete.
