LITTLE SILVER: The last week of the year will find some road closures due to construction, and office closures due to the holidays.
An ongoing road project will close Harding Road between Prospect Avenue and Ridge Road, starting 8 a.m. Monday Dec. 29. The roadway is expected to be closed through mid-afternoon Wednesday Dec. 31, according to Little Silver police.
The area will have detour signs and police help directing traffic, but alternate routes are advised, if at all possible.
The closures are due to ongoing sewer work, which closed portions of the roadway in front of borough hall earlier this year. Then later, Branch Avenue closed from White Avenue to Rumson Road through Dec. 5-10.
Borough offices, which were closed Dec. 25 and 26 for the Christmas holiday, will reopen today, Dec. 29. For New Year's, borough offices will close at noon Dec. 31 and will remain closed all day January 1. And, there's no trash collection on January 1.
Next Monday, on January 5, the county will close the West Front Street Bridge through May 16. The county is replacing this bridge, and in order to connect the new bridge to the Middletown and Red Bank shorelines, the current bridge must be closed, said Freeholder Thomas A. Arnone, the liaison to the county department of public works and engineering. This is the last phase of the project, hoped to be completed before Memorial Day weekend.
The Little Silver Mayor and Council will hold the annual reorganization meeting on 7:30 p.m. January 5. The annual meeting sets the agenda for the coming year, swearing in officials for annual appointments or the start of new terms. The meeting will be held in borough hall.
