Running Dog Band Plays The Blues in West End

LONG BRANCH: Blues, blues and more blues was the musical agenda for the Running Dog Band at the city's Blues by the Beach summer program at West End Park. The Jersey Shore Jazz and Blues Foundation and the Long Branch Urban Enterprise Zone program sponsor the Sunday program.

Many familiar faces come back week in and out. Dancers enjoyed the grass dance floor in front of the bandshell stage.

Rob Paparozzi from the Hudson River Rats, a group invited often to the program, was in the audience. A friend of the Dogs, he was called to the stage to add his harmonica talents.

The performance was well received by the crowd which grew in size to fill the park again this Sunday. A fan, chatting with a fellow lawn chair person said he enjoyed the classic B.B. King themes mixed into the songs being played.

At the west end of the park a family of bocce players were enjoying the game and the music.

Kids were busy on the swings and climbing bars, with parents watching the small fry as the band entertained.

It was a first appearance for the Manahawkin-bassed band in Long Branch, and from the fan reaction, they may be invited back again.
