SEABRIGHT: The borough council has awarded $1.1 million contract for the Ocean Avenue Streetscape Improvement Project.
The contract was awarded at the March 21 Sea Bright Council meeting to Precise Construction Incorporated, of Freehold; the lowest responsible among four possible contractors.
The project will be funded by a New Jersey Economic Development Authority (EDA) streetscape revitalization program by way of a $1.3 million grant. All the work will be done from the curbs on the east and west sides of the street to the businesses and the borough parking lot from the Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge to Beach Street.
Landscaped curb bump-outs will be created at intersections to shorten the distance for people looking to cross the highway.
Other improvements include:
• Additional benches that will be pinned down
• Decorative street lights
• Way-finding signage
• ADA-compliant ramps
• New concrete sidewalks
• Additional trash receptacles that will be pinned down
• Landscaping and street trees
• Additional crosswalks
The streetscape project was originally scheduled to begin in March, but it will now likely begin in April, as long as the New Jersey Department Of Transportation grants the borough a highway occupancy permit. The beautification work estimated to take about four months to complete.
