SEA BRIGHT: A provider has been found that will construct a cell tower in the borough in the next few months.
"The bidding process has come to an end and we have one bidder, Verizon, that's on board to put a tower up in Sea Bright," Councilman Brian Kelly said at the Oct. 7 Sea Bright Council meeting. "We eventually do hope to have 2-4 providers, but as it stands right now, we have the biggest one which is a good start."
"The next step will either be to award the bid to them or to address any concerns that (the council) might have beforehand," Kelly said. "After that we will prepare the lease and then it's up to Verizon to go before CAFRA to seek approval to have a cell tower put up because it's near the oceanfront."
If Verizon receives approval from the state, the design will be shared with the council and the Sea Bright Planning Board which must approve the site plan before construction can begin.
"If there aren't any concerns from the state or the governing body, it should be constructed by the spring or early summer," Kelly said.
The annual rent for the tower will be no less than $34,000 per year with a yearly rent increase of 3 percent.
Kelly has said that depending on the number of carriers that ultimately utilize the cell tower, the estimated yearly revenue could total between $80,000 - $100,000.
