Sea Bright Downtown Improvements Coming

SEA BRIGHT: The borough's downtown business district will soon be receiving a facelift.

The borough received a $1.34 million Community Development Block Grant from the New Jersey Economic Development Authority for a streetscaping project.

New elements will be constructed from Center Street to the Rumson-Sea Bright Bridge.

Some of the improvements could include new concrete sidewalks with paver borders and improved crosswalks, pedestrian level street lights, landscaping/bioswales, bike racks and signage for for way-finding.

"This project works on a tight timetable, Councilman Kelly and his committee will be driving this project with a steering committee made up of stakeholders from the downtown area as well as inout from elected officials and hopefully our planning board as well," Mayor Dina Long said at the March 31 Sea Bright Town Hall meeting.

Construction on the project will likely begin in October so it does not interfere with the beach season. Long said there will be public outreach meetings to show what the improvements will look like before construction begins.

The plan must also receive the blessing of the state as many of the improvements take place along Route 36/Ocean Avenue.

The streetscaping project should be completed by the spring of 2016.

Immediately following the streetscaping project, the New Jersey Department of Transportation is scheduled to begin its Route 36 restriping plan. To read more about that plan, click here.
