SEA BRIGHT: The farmers' market will return this year after the borough council passed a resolution allocating funding for the second-year event.
The event will begin May 7 and will be held Thursdays through the fall from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., rain or shine.
The resolution states that the Community Green Market Organizers who run the farmers' market require a $3,500 fee for the operations and management of the event and $1,000 when payable vendor receipts surpass $1,000. The funds will be paid out of the Sea Bright Recreation budget.
Councilman Marc Leckstein said the borough has applied for two Sustainable New Jersey grants. One would be for $2,000 to help offset the cost of the farmers' market and also a $20,000 grant which would help fund a permanent position for someone to run the market. Leckstein said the $20,000 grant would fund the market for "at least two years."
The borough should find out if it will be receiving either grant by March.
Leckstein said the event needs more volunteers to help make it run successfully.
"We only have a couple volunteers still and we really need volunteers to help take over this market become a truly community-run event rather than having to hire consultants to do it," Leckstein said. "The goal is for this to be a Sea Bright-run event."
There will be a volunteers meeting at borough hall at 6 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 23.
