SEA BRIGHT: The Sea Bright Farmer's Market will officially kick off its inaugural season Thursday, Aug. 14, from 2-7 p.m. in the municipal parking lot located on Ocean Avenue in downtown Sea Bright.
The market is sponsored by the Sea Bright Borough Council and its Sustainable Sea Bright Committee and will be operated by Community Green Market Organizers for the 2014 season.
The market supports and encourages organic and sustainable growing by bringing small local and family farmers to Sea Bright. By inviting local farmers to sell their products directly to consumers, the market fosters social gathering and community building. The market will also provide an economic benefit to Sea Bright by drawing residents and visitors to the area and encouraging them to shop at local businesses, all of which sustained significant losses due to Superstorm Sandy. Emphasizing this goal, the Market’s Grand Opening Day will be designated as “Shop Local, Shop Sea Bright” to support the Sea Bright community whose residents and businesses were so heavily impacted by the storm.
“Supporting the farmer’s market showcases all the outstanding fresh produce this region offers as well as the collective strength of the Sea Bright community which has been instrumental to its continuing recovery” says Brian Kelly, Sea Bright’s Borough Council President.
As a “producer only” market, the organizers will feature vendors who sell products they grow or make themselves including organic and naturally grown fruits and vegetables from Krowicki Farm, Great Road Farm and Happy Harvest Farm; organic, locally roasted coffee from Fair Mountain Coffee; fresh baked breads and pastries from Baker’s Bounty; raw honey from Neshanic Valley Beekeepers and locally crafted vegan soaps from Franklin Soapworks.
Among the items available at the market will be Jersey tomatoes, sweet corn, summer squash, eggplant, peppers, onions, potatoes, beets, melons, peaches and plums. Each week the Market organizers plan to invite additional vendors including growers and producers of grass-fed meat and poultry, fish, cheeses, mushrooms, eggs, maple products, jams & jellies, wines, flowers, herbs and much more.
Market goers will enjoy a special treat on Grand Opening Day when Executive Chef Kyle Hopfensperger, Executive Chef at the Dive Coastal Bar, 1072 Ocean Ave., demonstrates how to make his famous fresh corn and black bean salsa, using fresh corn from Krowicki Farm and serving it up for your culinary delight on freshly baked corn tortillas! The demonstration will be held between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Grand Opening Day.
The seasonal Market will be held weekly on Thursdays from 2-7 p.m. and run through Oct. 30. In addition to the fresh produce and baked goods, the market will also feature weekly food demonstrations, hands-on learning opportunities and fun activities for everyone. The Market is conveniently located in downtown Sea Bright with free parking provided on the northernmost end of Sea Bright’s municipal parking lot located on Ocean Avenue.
