Sea Bright Library Needs Your Support

Sea Bright Library before Hurricane Sandy

WORDontheShore doesn't normally post it's opinion as a top story, but we were compelled to act and show our support for the townspeople of Sea Bright.   The fight is over a library....a institution that has weathered many a storm until Sandy.   Now they are weathering another storm:  Funding to save their beloved library.

Here is the petition circulating from a determined few that see the importance of the Sea Bright Library to the town, to it's people and to it's future.   WORDontheShore can't sign the petition, BUT YOU CAN!   We've provided a link to a copy of the petition: seabrightlibpetition

======================== Save the Sea Bright Library===========================

We, the people of Sea Bright, should not be reduced to petitioning those who represent us, to bring back what has been an essential part of our community for 20 years.   Now that the engineers, and insurance people, have finally signed off on its reconstitution, and we have a commitment for a contribution of content, there is no excuse for anyone on our Borough Council to withhold support --and/or insurance monies--for our beloved Library.

Our Library was donated by those who loved and supported our town even before our crisis.  Let’s not disparage their memory, or forever alienate anyone who ever wants to donate to our town in good faith again.

We need the Library Now!  We need its Hope and Vitality.  We need a place where our children, so quietly, yet desperately traumatized, can be secure once again. It's not just books, and programs and computers.  It's comfort.  They need a place that they can walk in and be greeted by name. ...And offered a pretzel.

Don't we All need that?  We need books and newspapers and DVDs, computers, and wi-fi.  But what we really need is that cohesiveness -- the sense of community--that will make this town whole again.  As we struggle back in, we need a beacon that says "This is something we recognize.  And something that recognizes Us, as Sea Brighters, and says Welcome Home."

We need our Joan, our Patty, our Emma and Jane to welcome us back with smiles and open arms.  We need our Library.

The following citizens, and close townspeople, support the Library, the ♥ of Sea Bright, and urge you restore it to the community as quickly as possible.

You can also contact your local leaders and tell them how you feel.   Here are all of their particulars.   We're sure they'll be happy to hear from you.
