The application to rebuild The Mad Hatter On The Jersey Shore in Sea Bright was heard by the Sea Bright Planning/Zoning Board on Nov. 12.
The meeting, which was reportedly standing room-only, featured testimony from the restaurant's legal team and engineer.
According to a public notice, Kelly Management Group is s seeking to construct an elevated multi-use building at 10 E. Ocean Ave., the same location as the original restaurant. The building will have a maximum height of 47 feet and 9 inches; higher than the current height standards for the B-1 zone. Therefore, a variance will be needed for the project to move forward.
The applicant is also requesting variances for lot depth, front yard setback, rear yard setback, maximum building coverage, maximum lot coverage and minimum parking requirements.
There are some who have objected to the project and have even hired attorneys; a neighbor directly across Surf Street to the north and another who owns the connected property to the south.
The application is expected to continue during the Tuesday, Dec. 1 Sea Bright Planing/Zoning Board meeting.
