Seasonal beach badges will be half price, $50, from Wednesday, May 20 through Friday, May 22. The badges are normally half price from Dec. 1 through March 31, but adding a new paid beach has caused the council to give something back to the public.
The half price badges are currently available at Sea Bright Borough Hall, 1167 Ocean Ave., between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. After May 22, beach badges will be available only at the municipal beach office.
The council has also passed a resolution stating that anyone who purchased a $100 beach badge between April 1 and May 19, 2015, is eligible for a $50 refund.
Some residents have expressed disappointment that they did take advantage of the half price seasonal beach badge the borough offered throughout the winter months. Several said they would have done so if they knew that they would be required to have a badge to access Anchorage Beach.
The council agreed that the decision to guard the beach is more about safety than making extra income from charging admission.
Those who access the Anchorage Beach between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Saturdays or Sundays will be required to have either a daily or seasonal beach badge. The parking area there will be limited to beach badge holders only on Saturday and Sunday when the beach is guarded.
