Sea Bright Purchasing 'Parking Revenue System'

SEA BRIGHT: The governing body has taken another big step toward bringing paid parking to the borough.

During a special meeting held on March 21, the Sea Bright Council introduced an ordinance appropriating $95,000 for a "parking revenue system." The funds will be used for the installation of the system, which will likely be parking kiosks similar to those used in Long Branch, signage and parking lot improvements.

The paid parking would only be in effect during the summer season in the municipal parking lot, the Anchorage beach parking lot and the borough hall parking lot.

The borough council will discuss possible exclusions for paid parking including free parking passes for residents and free parking for business patrons for a finite amount of time.

Another ordinance setting the time limits, prices and other aspects of the meters will also have to passed by the council before the meters can be activated.

A public hearing on the ordinance will be held at April 5 Sea Bright Council meeting at 7 p.m. The council will also vote on whether or not to approve it at that time.
