OCEAN TOWNSHIP: The IAATO Festival 2016 started off on Wednesday at Palaia Park in Ocean with Senators, Freeholders and important town dignitaries (the Fire Department and the Teachers Association folks) and selfies, lots of selfies.
The mood was right, happy and enjoying the festivities. The weather held up - no rain. The midway was busy with hundreds of food lovers and rides enthusiasts. It was a great night for the event, one of the biggest in the State. The fun event last year donated $25,000 in scholarships for kids.
State Senators Cory Booker and Bob Menendez stopped by for a visit as did Monmouth County Freeholders Tom Arnone, Sherriff Shaun Golden and Serena DiMaso. Festival attendees grabbed the opportunity to take selfies with the visitors, in a Selfie Jubilee that had Sen. Booker in the forefront of the many who were snapping away with smiling faces themselves.
Italian American Association of Ocean workers posed for a quick photo and kids at the fun tables enjoyed it all. Almost as much as the adults, with the first of this year's 50-50 winners of the hourly drawings walking home with $220.
The show events list for the week was at the main entrance so take a look at the list here and see which nights fit your schedule. It's for a great cause and means happy times for all.
