Shop Rite OK'd For Shrewsbury

The Shrewsbury Zoning Board of Adjustment has OK'd the construction of a new Shop Rite for Shrewsbury.

The supermarket will be located at 1151-1163 Shrewsbury Avenue in the Shrewsbury Business Center complex.

The proposal by SBC Holdings included the demolition of three "largely untenanted" vacant buildings in the in the Shrewsbury Business Center complex and the construction of the 88,230 square-foot grocery store. The store will be a Saker Shop Rite and will be similar to the West Long Branch location on the corner of Monmouth Road and Route 36.

The proposal was first heard by the board of adjustment on Sept. 28, 2016 and was finally approved last week. The application was before the zoning board because a supermarket is not a permitted use in the borough's Light Industrial Zone.
