Shore Regional HS Saddened by Student's Death

WEST LONG BRANCH: An abbreviated Shore Regional Board of Education was held on Thursday, November 30. The usual parents and opening session generally for school announcements such as awards, scholarships etc. had none to report. The regular pubic session began at 7 and was brief.

At the start of the business portion of the meeting Superintendent Tom Farrell announced the passing on Wednesday of senior student Aleka Damiano, a popular sports participant treasured by fellow classmates, faculty and coaches.

The much loved and respected Aleka is known for her sports contribution to the Devils athletic success as a part of her high school career, where she was a President of the SRHS National Society, with wishes to go on to college after June.

An accomplished write and contributor to the school's Beacon Newspaper. Her ultimate goal was to make the world a better place.

Aleka passed away at the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City.

A West Long Branch resident, she was a member at the nearby St. George Greek Orthodox Church, the Greek Orthodox Youth of America, the St. George GOYA, where she was first runner up in the Miss GOYA Pageant, as well as her participation with the FCA Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She was active at Shore in the Interact Rotary Club, and the Beacon School Newspaper.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 3 from 4 - 9 pm at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1033 West Park Avenue in Ocean Twp. A funeral service will be held on Monday at 1:30 pm at the Church. Interment will follow at St. George Greek Orthodox Cemetery in Neptune. Letters of condolence may be sent through the web at www.damianofuneralhome.com.

The school administration announced that in an effort to allow for funeral attendance, Monday, Dec. 4, will be an early dismissal for all Shore Regional students, faculty and staff.

All after-school sport, club, or activity meetings are discretionary as per each respective group. Vocational student transportation will run as regularly scheduled should those students choose to attend.
