Surfside Bait and Tackle Robbed, Long Branch Police Charge Two

LONG BRANCH: Two men have been arrested and charged with the armed robbery of Surfside Bait and Tackle, located at 200 Ocean Blvd., in the city.

The men, a 20-year-old Parlin resident and an 18-year-old East Orange resident have been charged with several crimes for the robbery which occurred on Friday, May 23.

The Parlin man has been charged with robbery, possessing a firearm for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a handgun. The East Orange resident has been charged with assault, theft, obstructing the administration of the law, robbery, firearm for an unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a handgun.

The men allegedly pistol-whipped the store clerk and stole $450 while armed with the handgun, according to Monmouth County Court criminal complaints records. 

Police were able to locate and arrest the men on Friday and they were both transported to Monmouth County Jail in Freehold and held in lieu of $350,000 bail with no 10 percent option.
