Takanassee 5K: Stormy Weather for Week # 5

Tak 5K Winners, Taylor Poli and Katie Brookes - and yes, they're also dating.

Long Branch: This week’s thunder storms to the north of the city held down the number of contestants in the Monday night Takanassee 5K and the companion 1500M for the kids.   But a bright sunny ending prevailed  moments before the Kids 1500M got off for the once-around the lake run. The hot humid air did however remain heavy and had its effect on the contestants.

In the 1500M, Riley Gardner from Monmouth Beach took that one for the boys. Tinton Falls’ Chloe Baptista led the girls with a strong first place finish.

The 5k Run went to Katie Brookes, Atlantic Highlands. The medal went to Taylor Poli, Middletown, for the men. Katie explained the kiss from Taylor as they strode to the medals table. ”We’re dating” she said as they smiled for a photo op.

Panse Geer took the women’s medal for the 5k Racewalk again this week. John Soucheck won it for the men, besting last week’s winner Tom Quatrochi.

Race Director Taryn Landers reminded all that there are 4 more weeks of competition. The final week is traditionally a Fun Week when season award winners get recognized. The final evening consists of a 2-mie race instead of the usual 5K.

Taryn is the women's track coach at Monmouth U, which is holding its Cross Country Camp July 30 to August 3, at the university campus. It is an overnight running camp. If interested, e-mail:  jcompagn@mpnmouth.edu for info. Registration is at www.gomuhawks.com
