Three City Beaches Closed This Weekend

LONG BRANCH: Three of the city's beaches will remain closed this weekend as crews continue to pump sand as part of the Army Corps of Engineers beach replenishment project.

Long Branch Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Stanley Dziuba said the West End Avenue, Brighton Avenue and New Court beaches will be closed this weekend due to the sand replenishment. The beaches were closed for Memorial Day weekend as well.

Dziuba has said he hopes the beaches will reopen by the following weekend as the project nears its completion.

The project, which began in November, is tentatively scheduled to be completed by June 17, right before the city's beaches open 7 days a week instead of just being open on weekends.
