Two Sea Bright 'Eyesores' Could Be Knocked Down Soon

SEA BRIGHT: Two structures that have been deemed "eyesores" by borough officials for years could be demolished in the near future.

Councilman Marc Leckstein said the "old fortune teller's house" at 1260 Ocean Ave. and the dry cleaners building could be knocked down soon.

The fortune teller's house is located in the south beach area of town near the Covesail Marina has been abandoned since Hurricane Sandy hit the borough in 2012, and possibly before that, according to Leckstein.

Leckstein said the home has been put in foreclosure by the lender and that the borough is supporting the application.

"We're joining in the effort to encourage a quick process," he said.

The house will have to go through a sheriff's sale and either the bank will gain control of it or someone else will. Either way, the end result should be the demolition of the home, Leckstein said.

He the other property, the dry cleaners building located in the center of town, has also been vacant since Hurricane Sandy.

"Apparently the dry cleaners building has been sold, or at the very least someone came in to apply for a permit to remove the underground storage tank which should be a precursor hopefully to that building coming down," Leckstein said. "That would be another huge eyesore in town taken down."
