WEST LONG BRANCH: Borough police say the fireworks display at Franklin Lake has not been delayed or changed as of Thursday afternoon.
"After carefully assessing all available information regarding the impending weather, it was decided to go ahead with the festivities," a message on the West Long Branch Police Facebook page states. "Only if the weather takes a dramatic turn for the worse will there be a possibility of rescheduling."
The remainder of the message follows:
Spectators and motorists traveling in the area are reminded to use EXTRA CAUTION and to keep an EXTRA eye out for pedestrians, as well as stop-and-go traffic. Watch for and abide by all detour signs and the direction of officers stationed throughout West Long Branch and Long Branch (Oceanfest is happening the same night as our display).
Remember that fireworks are illegal and the use or possession of same will result in confiscation and complaints, especially around the Lake during the public gathering. Be smart and safe.
There will come a time during the early evening tomorrow night that eastbound traffic on State Highway 36 will be detoured down Broadway until approximately midnight. This is to allow for an uninterrupted westbound flow after the West Long Branch and Long Branch celebrations have concluded. Follow all detours, signs and officers' instructions.
Finally, generally the West Long Branch fireworks will launch as close to 9 PM as possible.
