WLB Council Notes

West Long Branch: Mayor Janet Tucci opened the WLB August 29 Council meeting that followed the 6:30 Caucus and Executive sessions with a moment of silence to honor Senator John McCain, recalling the senator as. "..a true hero" to the country.

After the flag salute she asked Councilman Stephen Bray for an update on the project approved for pedestrian beacons (flashing lights) to guide certain street crossings which is going forward. Councilman John Penta added that other annual borough road repair projects are on schedule, as based on most severe first.

Councilwoman MaryLynn Mango explained that family Movie Night is on September 21 at 7:30. The borough Garage Sale is October 6, and the Fall Festival is October 21 from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M. at Franklin Lake. The annual Fall Festival is September 21 from 1 to 4 pm. The Summer Recreation program was a big success.

December 2 is set for the annual Tree Lighting, but without the traditional sing-a-long. The singers' number has become much smaller over the years. Still in consideration it is "More to follow".

The new bocce court in the Ronan Shirvanian Park has been busy, including a day of bocce competition with neighbor Oceanport Borough, friendly rivalry that all 100 in attendance enjoyed.

Councilmen Fred Migliaccio and Chris Neyhart guided to competition with lots of help from fire, first aid, EMT and volunteers in the town. Anyone interested in using the courts should call borough hall. A photo of the trophy to be used each year is with this article.

Also mentioned was the reopening of the West Long Branch Community Center, a private property originally purchased for the town by the Lions Club. It is available for various uses by clubs and private citizens, and can use support
