WEST LONG BRANCH: Mayor Janet Tucci called the regular Council Meeting open after an hour-long executive session following the caucus. Her words were solemn as she asked all to think deeply about the issues facing the country today, and offer a silent prayer for peace to prevail.
She recalled the Blue Star Memorial Highway Rededication by Oceanport veterans over the weekend, recalling the history, the losses of war and the future we must continue to rebuild for our country.
Roll call had council members Penta and Juliano away, but a quorum was on place.
Most maters were fairly straight forward; the business of running the Borough.
Two new employees have been added, Sheree Carnevale and Lucile Trimarchi, to work 20 hours in the borough offices on Broadway. A resolution was passed to affirm the Borough's policy on civil rights for existing and new employees, including those under consideration for employment. Volunteers, independent contractors and members of the public serving as volunteers are part of the coverage.
Engineering fees for the capital improvement fund (roads etc.) was passed for application to Borough Engineer's purposes. Bids will be accepted ongoing. Work under the NJDOT (Department of Transportation) are a part of the bigger picture for Franklin Parkway and Maryland Avenue.
