West Long Branch: The Fire Department Santa’s Toy Run went off on schedule on Sunday, as trucks and escorts left the firehouses at exactly 9:00 A.M., the appointed hour. It was time to deliver toys to West Long Branch children. Both fire companies – No. 1 and No. 2 were in on the fun.
“It is always a fun event for us,” said Asst. Chief Charles Shirley. “We used our Mack (Fire Company No. 2’s truck) as usual. It is the one we have planned to replace. And good we have. We had a problem today we discovered; one more time to patch it up.” There new truck is on order and should be here in May, he said.
Although a cold day, spirits were still high as the group enjoyed Santa’s presence. The buffet lunch and good cheer made the party a good one.
Company No. 1, the Chemical and Truck Company, participated in the run as it covered a second section of the borough. It had held its holiday celebration the week before.
